(previous from Oregon, Portland)

We hiked more than 15km throughout Mt Rainier National Park (Washington) and I would classify this amongst ‘’The Top Hiking Destinations in the USA’’ The views were spectacular with glaciers, dozens of peaks (and many more in the North Cascade region), a blue sky and some tricky, almost dangerous icy stretches. (We saw a 65 year old lady fall down more than 100 meters down into a ravine…)  After two hot, sunny days, it was too bad not to have showers or drinkable water at our campground. (but we had cold beers and wine waiting for us at the end of each day!)
Watch the slide show of our stay at Mt Rainier National Park.

Conclusion Part 1:

So I guess it is time for a little summary of our trip so far…  We have been on the road for 65 days now (just over 9 weeks), and we traveled 9350km from Northern Mexico to Seattle, USA.  The car has been very good.  We had to change a tire in Las Vegas after a screwdriver (caught on a poor Mexican road) went through it.  I had to change fuses after the cigarette lighter fried fuses in our car.  We rented amazing villas and condos, slept in greasy dirty motels and camped approximately 20 nights on this trip with night temperatures averaging between 2 and 12 degrees Celsius only!  This has been our biggest surprise:  the west coast is cold in the summer!  Bring jackets and mittens!  We have seen more snow on this trip than in Montreal in December (seriously).  We’ve hiked in four national parks and 5 state parks for a total of 100km of hiking throughout this trip.  We tasted the best cheese in the USA, drank the best wines, saw the most beautiful landscapes and visited the coolest cities.  We swam in freezing cold water and saw wild dolphins, whales, sea lions, bob cat, deers, elks, marmots, eagles, Californian Condors and many more (I say wild because we did not visit a zoo, and saw all these animals while camping!)

This is a milestone I thought we would never reach…  CANADA!  We are entering home and becoming residents again after 13 years of living abroad…  We are far from Montreal yet.  We have at least 6000km to go before we get to Montreal.  We still have Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the entire Canadian Rockies and more.  Planning ahead, we have a minimum of 6 weeks on the road before we reach Montreal.  We have so many people and friends to catch up with all across the country!
