Mazatlan, Mexico June 23 to 27th 2011

Finally our sabbatical year is here!  It seemed that this moment would never realize.  We happily left Torreon on June 23rd 2011 for Mazatlan.  As soon as we left the city and started driving through the desert, we saw wild coyotes crossing the highway. 
What a nice way to say goodbye to Coahuila.

The road to Mazatlan was not as bad as I thought it would be. 
Lots of turns, fog and trucks, but overall it was OK. 
It took almost 8 hours to complete 550km.

Mazatlan was a nice change from Torreon!  From dry desert temperature to hot humid tropical weather!  We stayed at the Ramada Resort Hotel and the pool was amazing!  The old Mazatlan was calm and charming and the beach was clean, but with some jellyfish.  The boardwalk was pleasant for morning runs.

It was amazing to see how many locals were out on Sunday enjoying the beach and the sun.  The beaches were packed with Mexicans drinking big beers and enjoying fish tacos. Continue reading
